Crispin graduated in 1965 from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Science Degree having majored in Chemistry and Zoology. He is an Australian Patent Attorneys having qualified in 1969. Crispin worked in the international patent department of the American company AMP Inc. in London during 1970 before returning to Australia and becoming a partner in an Australian firm of patent attorneys.

Crispin MarshHis professional practice as a patent attorney was principally in the area of patenting and licensing. He also has a considerable interest in the commercial aspects of intellectual property and has drafted and negotiated a large number of technology transfer agreements. Clients have typically comprised individual inventors, SME's and non-profit research organisations. Crispin has represented these clients in negotiations with large companies such as Shell International Petroleum, ICI Australia (as it then was), Albright and Wilson Ltd, Zeneca Agrochemicals Ltd, Baxter Healthcare Corp, Edwards LifeSciences Inc., and Methanex Corp.

Crispin has been involved over a long period in providing education in intellectual property and licensing. Crispin has been active in the Licensing Executives Society (LES) in Australia and overseas since 1974. He has been President of LES Australia & New Zealand and has had a number of positions within LES International. He was Chair of the Communications Committee of LES International and was, in that role, active in the development of electronic communication within the society. His work within the Licensing Executive Society has included the creation of an educational tool known as the 'Licensing Game' that has been played in a number of countries.

Crispin has been actively involved in mediating disputes relating to intellectual property. He has also assisted clients in the raising of venture capital and research grant money to fund the creation of new businesses.

Crispin is a director of a number of companies engaged in the development of innovative new products and services; these include Sunshine Heart Company Pty Ltd and Vaporex Pty Ltd. He is also a director of the PDF fund Australian Biomedical and Healthcare Fund No 3 Limited.
